LUMBERTON — A public hearing on a request to pursue a Community Development Block Grant that would fund sewer expansion at Rosewood Mobile Home Park is on the agenda for Monday’s City Council meeting.

The grant application would be for about $700,000, said Rob Armstrong, Public Works director. He believes the city would receive the grant.

The park located off Elizabethtown Road has 125 home sites. Eighty-six of those sites have failing on-site septic systems, Armstrong said.

The city also must amend its five-year capital improvements plan to turn it into a 10-year capital improvements plan, Armstrong said. This will make the city’s case for the grant stronger.

Armstrong said the county’s health department has been shutting down home sites in the park where the failing septic systems can’t be repaired. The Health Department is not allowing additional connections or replacement homes on these lots.

“We already have a shortage of housing for those with moderate incomes,” Armstrong said. “With expanded sewer we can help reduce this shortage of housing.”

Other public hearings set for Monday include consideration of an amendment updating the water and sewer capital improvement plan from five years to 10 years, and changes to regulations governing the operation of a car-wash business in a central business zone.

In other business on Monday, the council:

— Will consider moving ahead with an application for a $150,000 Asset Inventory Assessment Grant to map the city’s water system.

— Will consider adopting ordinances directing the building inspector to demolish and remove an unsafe building at 2310 Marshall St., and demolish and remove an unsafe storage facility at 3605 N. Walnut St.

Monday’s meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the council chambers on the third floor of the city hall. The city hall is located at 500 N. Cedar St.
