LUMBERTON — Petsense in Lumberton is sponsoring a pet adoption on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to benefit Franny’s Friends.

The local Petsense, located at 4327 Fayetteville Road in Lumberton, joins the other 164 Petsense stores across the country in celebrating the company’s fall Pet Adopt-a-Thon.

Each store uses the day to raise money to support an animal rescue group of its choice, said Dean Schmude, Petsense manager. The company-wide goal is to find homes for at least 1,000 animals during the day.

The adoption event will include games for children, a coloring contest, drawings for gifts, a package of coupons for pet supplies with each pet adopted, and an appearance by Skip Williams, better known as “Skip the Dog Trainer.”

Cats and dogs will be available for adoption. Franny’s Friends welcomes donations of new and used pet supplies, including food, blankets, dog houses, cleaning solutions, and collars and leashes. Cash donations also will be accepted. Donations of kennels and tarps also are requested.
